What is a Conventional Float Collar?
A conventional float collar is the standard type of float collar.
Primary Function: Its main role is to act as a landing seat for the cement plugs. It also contains a check valve that serves as a secondary or backup backflow prevention mechanism.
Key Features:
- Single Valve Design: Like the conventional float shoe, the most common conventional float collar has a single check valve.
- Flat Profile: Its internal design has a flat profile that provides a solid surface for the cementing plugs to “bump” or land on. This is critical for indicating that the cement has been fully displaced.
- PDC Drillable: The internal components are made of drillable materials.
Purpose: The conventional float collar ensures that the cement is placed accurately and that a strong, uncontaminated cement bond is achieved around the critical float shoe area. It also provides a vital safety redundancy in case the float shoe’s valve fails.

- The valve is made of drillable material, the body is made of phenolic resin, and the spring is made of tin bronze. Overall performance meets API RP 10F IIIC requirements.
- For internal cement filling, high sulfur-resistant oil well cement is selected, which has good drillability and good erosion resistance.
- Thread processing inspection is performed in accordance with API 5B standards.
- Float shoes and float collars are available in single valve or double valve design. It can be used not only for general technical casing and oil layer casing, but also for deep wells, ultra-deep wells and special process wells.
